Kılıç Deniz, leading aqua-culture firm with a capacity of 65 thousand tons, requested official support. The company suggested that they could leave Norway behind if they were provided with enough space.
Entering the aqua-culture sector with a capacity of 50 tons, Kılıç Deniz became the leader of the sector with a capacity of 65 thousand tons and an export volume of about 142 million FOB dollars. Kılıç Deniz fulfills the fish needs of 150 million people in 60 countries. Orhan Kılıç, the Chairman of Kılıç Deniz, stated that they were planning to increase the export volume even further when the new facility in Mersin with an annual production capacity of 20 thousand seabream and seabass commences production by the end of 2018. “The size of our investments in Mersin depends on the space we are given. Normally we have support from the government but it is insufficient. If we have the opportunity, we will outperform Norwegian production,” he said.
